Electrical Characterization of Carbon Nanotube Reinforced Silver and Copper Composites for Switching Contacts

چکیده

Carbon nanotube (CNT)-reinforced silver and copper metal matrix composites—at three different reinforcement phase concentrations (0.5 wt.%, 0.75 1 wt.%)—were produced via powder metallurgy sintered hot uniaxial pressing. Optical electron microscopy techniques were used to characterize the mixtures composites. The latter also electrically characterized load-dependent electrical contact resistance (ECR) surface fatigue tests. Particle size morphology play a crucial role in CNT deposition onto metallic powder. deposited exceptionally well dendritic regardless of its larger (compared with flakes) due higher area caused by grooves edges structures. addition matrices improved their performance, general outperforming reference material. Higher consistently low ECR values. In addition, high (i.e., wt.%) show exceptional repeatability elastic restitutive properties CNT. reproducibility was further evaluated tests, where composites showed lower than material, rapidly reaching steady-state within 20 cycles analyzed.

Preparation and characterization of carbon nanotube reinforced silicon nitride composites

Multiwall carbon nanotube (MWNT) reinforced silicon nitride ceramics matrix composites have been prepared. The hot isostatic press (HIP)-sintering method was used for composite processing. Bending strength and elastic modulus of MWNT-silicon nitride composites showed a considerable improvement compared to matrices with added carbon fiber, carbon black or graphite. However, the silicon nitride s...

Mechanical and rheological properties of carbon nanotube-reinforced polyethylene composites

This paper investigates some mechanical and rheological properties of low density polyethylene (LDPE) composites reinforced by multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs). It was found that the Young’s modulus and tensile strength of the composites can increase by 89% and 56%, respectively, when the nanotube loading reaches 10 wt%. The curving and coiling of MWNTs play an important role in the enhanc...

Image Characterization of Carbon Fibre Reinforced Composites

A new methodology to detect fibres orientation in composite materials, using image processing tools is introduced. Several examples with manufacturing defects are studied using RIMAPS technique and the Variogram method. The characterization is made from digitized images of the samples. Combined use of RIMAPS and Variogram analyses identified the orientation of fibres and determined the values o...
